I know so much about this story but can't for the life of me find the title by searching .. Book is set in England. The main character is a guy who is about 18 years old – possibly a little older. His parents have bought a house in a new town and he moves there ahead of them to begin college or tech school at the beginning of the semester. The house needs a bit of work and he starts doing things around the place to fix it up. In the beginning there is no power and he has to eat cold baked beans from a can. He sleeps in his swag/sleeping bag. I think he has a lantern or candles. I think his name is Mark. The story is told from two points of view – the main character and his neighbour. She is a younger girl, I think she is about 16. Her name is Nora or Nell, or something short like that. She first notices him when he is walking up the street wearing his headphones. He is right into his dance music. There is a chapter in the book where he goes to a record store and is talking about white labels. He has all of his records sent up to him. Makes a mix tape and has it on a disc. From memory it gets stolen from him at school. He corrects a guy about different styles of dance music and the guy doesn’t like it. In the end another guy gives him his mix tape back and tells him that it’s really good. I think this guy’s name is Dom or something like that. You find out later that these guys have a pirate radio station. They are all Dj’s. They become friends. There is a girl at his college that he is attracted to. She has her nose pierced and wears a chain from the hole in her nose to the hole in her ear. I think it has a star charm on it. She seems to like him too but plays a little hot and cold. I think she was dating the guy that he has the altercation with. Main character ends up throwing a massive party – he originally doesn’t plan this, he thinks that just a few people are coming around, but it turns into a huge house party. He bought some beers and puts them in the bathtub but I think they get drunk really early on. The girl with the chain in her nose comes to the party. He offers to get her a drink and I think he gets her vodka and orange. When he gets back to her, she takes a sip then spits it out. She tells him she doesn’t drink alcohol. Then he sees her pop a pill in her mouth – she takes ecstasy. I think one of his mates tells him she is bad news. After the party he gets woken up by a loud knocking at the door. It is his neighbour. Someone spray painted the word fascist on the side of his house. He starts to notice the other girl in his street.
